The Treasurer helps keep the chapter’s finances organized, transparent, and in compliance with applicable requirements. This is a volunteer position,not a paid professional accounting or finance role. You do not need to be an accountant or financial expert.
What the Treasurer Does:
Financial Management
Manage the chapter’s routine banking responsibilities, including receiving and depositing chapter funds in the bank designated by the Board.
Make authorized disbursements in accordance with the approved budget or Board direction.
Ensure bills and approved expenses are paid, generally involving just a few payments or checks each month.
Keep basic financial records and documentation.
Provide regular written financial reports to the Board, with quarterly reports as the minimum. Reports may be provided more frequently if the chapter prefers.
Compliance
Complete or coordinate required annual state and federal financial filings and paperwork.
Help ensure the chapter remains in compliance with applicable State of Oregon requirements.
Follow National NOW bylaws and policies, as well as applicable state and local chapter bylaws and policies.
Maintain appropriate financial records for chapter activities.
Participation
Attend chapter meetings at least every other month, or a minimum of six meetings per year.
Most meetings will be online.
Participate in approximately 2–3 in-person chapter activities each year, as reasonably possible.
Provide financial information and updates to the chapter and Board as needed.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5–10 hours per month, depending on the time of year and chapter activity.
Additional work on committees, events, fundraising, advocacy, or other projects is at the volunteer’s discretion and is not a required part of the Treasurer role.
Term & Eligibility
Two-year elected term.
Candidates must generally have been a member of NOW for at least 90 days prior to election, unless this requirement is waived by the Board.
Officers may serve no more than two consecutive two-year terms in the same office.

Willing to learn applicable NOW, Oregon, and chapter requirements
Able to communicate clearly about the chapter’s finances
